Welcome!

Welcome to a new way of visualizing the history of our world. Classically, we’ve always heard and learned of historical references in a linear, mono-geographical way. For example, we learned of the building of the pyramids, but, do you know what was going on in South America at that same time?

The Visual History attempts to give a unique historical perspective by opening the aperture of our vision, plotting events not only chronologically, but geographically as well. Now you can see what was happening over the entire Earth at any particular date.

We’ve always had a compressed view of the passage of time, it’s very hard to imagine just how long 2000 years is. Each 1000px X 1000px plate in this project represents a entire century; as a result, Phase 1 alone spans 20 plates, 20,000 pixels long!

Be warned, when you click on View The Visual History, the page will take a very long time to load because of the mass of data!
